History

The Miracle Begins

On November 9, 1977, Baptist Retirement Center, a 180 bed facility since renamed-Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center opened its doors and admitted its first resident. At the very beginning of existence, a firm foundation was established to create a place where everyone would be lovingly welcomed and given the highest quality of care, "A Place to Call Home".

On November 9, 2007, the Center celebrated its 30th year in existence, and is enjoying the reputation of being one of the finest nursing homes in the country. In October 0f 2007 the facility was presented with The American Association of Homes and Services for The Aging's prestigious national Public Trust Award for the work we are doing with WRGB/Channel 6 to bring information to our senior community with a weekly news segment that airs in the Noon News on Mondays on CBS-6, hosted by area news veteran Liz Bishop along with our President and CEO, Timothy Bartos, called "Six on Seniors." When you look at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center today, you'll see the original building and a newer wing that houses another 82 beds, making our total capacity 262 beds. The newer wing also houses the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Departments, where short-term needs people come to be rehabilitated and then return to their homes and families in the community. You'll find our staff to be dedicated and committed to meeting the needs of residents and those who come for rehabilitative care.
