Physical Therapy
Our experienced physical therapists
design individual exercise and treatment programs to restore strength,
flexibility, and endurance. A wide range of therapeutic modalities
is emphasized to improve circulation, strengthen muscles, improve
balance and encourage the return of motion. While at the Center, the
staff works closely with the resident to achieve the most independent
level. When it's possible for the resident to return home, the staff
works closely with the family to ensure a smooth transition.
Home evaluations are done to assess needs prior to discharge. |
| Residents are trained in the
use of adaptive devices and techniques to make daily activities such
as dressing, bathing, grooming and eating easier and more independent.
Other roles of Occupational Therapy are to improve strength, range
of motion, and coordination. Braces/splints are also provided to prevent deformity
or enhance function. The primary goal is to restore function to the
most independent level.
Speech Therapy
Residents with communication
and/or swallowing disorders arising from neurological damage, commonly
caused by disabilities such as stroke and head trauma, are evaluated
and treated by our Speech and Language Pathologist, Diane Grabo. She is known as an innovative leader and valued resource in the area of speech pathology throughout The Capital Region. Individual treatment
programs are developed at Baptist to improve the use of language.
