Activities
From field trips, parties and concerts, to arts and crafts, woodworking and baking, people associated with Baptist have a choice of many activities. The Activities Department plans and arranges programs based on individual and group interests and events. Discussion groups, sing-alongs, gardening, exercise sessions, games, intergenerational programs, church groups, and even visits by pets trained to interact as therapy animals are happy occasions scheduled to provide fun and entertainment. Residents share in developing and shaping the program aspects of the Center through the Resident Council.
Intergenerational Programs
Intergenerational Programs at BHNRC foster warm relationships between our residents and young people from the community. Residents enjoy time spent with the younger generation, and the young people have a unique opportunity to share the "live history" experiences of our residents. Among these programs are:
- Local schools, girl scouts, boy scouts and church youth groups
- Christmas caroling and holiday parties
- Halloween costume parades and get-togethers
- Valentines Day cards and festivities
- Boy scouts help out with Bingo throughout the year
- Local high school students assist residents with our e-mail program
- Musical exchange program with a local elementary school
- Many local young people come daily as friendly visitors.
Pet Therapy Program
BHNRC recognizes the therapeutic benefits of combining animals with people. We value our very active Pet Therapy Program. Highlights are:
- Therapy Dogs International visit regularly
- Resident birds
- Special visits of a pot belly pig, bear cubs, llamas, cows, and rescued greyhounds, among others
- An "Open door" policy for families who wish to visit with a pet, with pre-registration necessary for safety purposes. Contact is Barbara Bradt at (518) 370-4700 Ext. 160.
